I had a problem yesterday with my blog post as Wordpress was converting the colon followed by the letter "o" into a smiley and therefore the quickest solution for me (rather than rewriting part of wordpress) was to go and find the HTML escaped character for the colon and drop that in there :)

That's pretty much what triggered this blog post so now I'll know where to go when I need a list of escaped characters :)
