This post saved me a great deal of time (and I can see that I’m not alone in this!)

One comment to another poster who said that some of the solutions offered here would fail CSS validation. This is another reason for confining IE hacks to an IE-specific style sheet. That way, you can isolate the validation failures to the IE specific style sheet, while keeping your other style sheets valid.
