I’ve been making the promise to myself for the last couple of years that I’d make the big step into the freelance world but with financial commitments and the worry of regular income, it’s simply been put off.
However, having just read the following article it’s really motivated me to finally get my act together before I miss an opportunity.
Rich Developer, Poor Developer
I’ve been working in the Web Design industry for around 7 years and have plenty of experience designing and building websites for not only the biggest companies in UK but also some of the biggest businesses in the world but whilst I’ve been doing that it’s been other companies getting rich off my hard work whilst I’ve only had a fraction of those profits passed on through bonuses and pay reviews.
So what have I been doing wrong? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been earning a decent living, have a nice house and car but I certainly haven’t been reaching my potential and that’s down to the fact that I’ve not been taking any risks by staying in a steady job and letting my employer take the risks.
Whilst working full-time though I’ve been steadily increasing my contacts within the web industry and building relationships with potential clients and customers who have been coming back with more business and recommendations to friends once they’re happy with the job I’ve done.
I’m also at the stage where I’m looking to free up a few hours a week to develop my own personal projects as another source of income with one particular joint venture project hopefully taking off within the next month.
